As an expat, it seems at times I have lived many different lives, always changing direction, places, jobs and houses at a drop of a hat, in search of new experiences. In one of those 'transitional phases', a trip home completely took my life down a different road. It seems that every time I go home I get triggered in all sorts of ways. The old way of doing things, the traditional pathways of life, interactions with emotional ties and people who do not understand the expat, entrepreneurial or digital nomadic life rears its ugly head, and spins me off yet again into a world of confusion. I returned to my home in Koh Samui feeling utterly lost, underachieved and completely uprooted from my hearts desires.
While reading a blog on an established PR firms website, I came across Hubba, a co working space with several branches in Bangkok. This seemed like a smart move, as I would cut down costs, network and pick up more clients. Yes, life wouldn't be paradise but maybe a foot in the right direction.
Joining the co-working space in Bangkok, ‘Hubba’ has led to this incredible, eye opening journey.
Entering the business world in Bangkok, as opposed to my life as an english teacher (my previous position in the city of angels) has shed new light on a culture and city that felt so familiar to me, turned it on its head and gave me a whole new perspective.
Entering the corporate scene of this dynamic and emerging market, it doesn’t take long to see how fast paced this strong country is moving, with so much buzz around entrepreneurship, startups and the sincere drive to push Thailand forward and into the global arena is palpable. There is a strong community of Thai’s, expats, digital nomads, freelancers, investors, all networking and driving this ecosystem forward.
By taking on this client, I have had to jump out of my comfort zone, push my creative boundaries, attend corporate conferences, events, mingle with business officials, startups, and leading investors. I have learnt so much about b2b, the varying levels of investments and investors, what it takes to drive a startup while keeping a watchful eye on what the rest of the world is doing.
Techsauce is Thailand's first Tech news agency with a Global Summit that happens at the end of June every year. The summit is the platform and foundation where startups and investors can network, mingle and create new business ventures.
As Global Editor, the first and foremost priority is creating unique content. This can be a challenge as we drown in information everyday via the internet. Researching and interviewing inspiring figures across Asia, from venture capitalists, to budding entrepreneurs in Indonesia, while covering top investments into Thai tech startups keeps Techsauce abreast of the rest.
Writing content for innovative tech conferences on a global scale has also helped to generate forward thinking content for the website while distributing it across the social media pages has helped to highlight the presence of Techsauce on a global scale and brought notoriety to the annual Summit.
The next few months are going to be intense as we drive this source of innovation, entrepreneurship and connectivity forward, enabling both Thai’s and foreigners to contribute and become part of this community.
I look forward to taking you on this journey with myself, Chase Communications and Techsauce as we gear up for another amazing event of entrepreneurial connections.
